Live in Pittsburgh!

Check Out Kait's Live Painting Experience in Downtown Pittsburgh!

So, the other night - I was asked to participate in a live painting event at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. I usually don't take part in too many live painting events but every now and again I squeeze one in. I find that I love interacting and meeting people as they watch what most people don't get the opportunity to see me doing. At live events, I tend to focus on letting people inside my world while showing and talking about the piece rather than focusing on the actual painting. I think that's why I hold back from doing too many live events. I have a hard time letting go on not focusing or not having the time on how perfect I can make the painting. But I'm slowly letting it go. SLOWLY. I already have a few live painting events coming up this fall that I'm really looking forward to, but mostly getting the opportunity to meet and connect my art with people in person.

This event was held at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh for the United Way's Tocqueville Society speed networking event. Due to the theme of "speed networking," our job as the artist were to demonstrate "speed painting."  Myself and three other talented artists were given a theme of the types of people the United Way of America helps and funds. We were only given 45 minutes to come up with our concept paintings, and at the end of the evening our paintings would be auctioned off and the proceeds were donated to the United Way. My theme this year was "Senior Citizens," so I chose the queen bee of them all and chose to paint a portrait of Estelle Getty as her character Sophia in Golden Girls. Everything was done in acrylic paint which is another thing out of my comfort zone, on an 18 x 24 inch canvas.

I had a great time at the event and I hope I made Estelle proud!
