The original plan was to also add a quote onto the painting, but now that we decided to go with a circular crop it was going to take away from the focus of the painting and seem too squished. Although a frame to a painting is the icing on the cake, it can also become very expensive icing, so the client and I decided to add the quote she originally wanted going around the side of the canvas. This worked out perfectly so you can still see the quote on the side of the painting when it's hung, but also saved money on framing a circular canvas. The quote she wanted written on the sides which sums up the photo perfectly says " Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away." The painting was done with oil paint on a 12 inch diameter circular canvas. I honestly couldn't tell you how to or where to even find the materials to begin building a circular canvas, so I ordered mine pre-stretched for me on Utrecht's website found here. It was my first time using a circular canvas but I really enjoyed the outcome of the painting and to give an old fashioned picture a new twist!

I was fortunate enough to be asked to recreate a treasured family photo of the person's grandparents kissing at their prom. I played around with the original picture which was a standard 4 x 6 photo. I cropped it a few different ways, but decided to play with it in another direction and cropped the image as a circle. The composition by far looked best and focused perfectly on the two people kissing as a circle.
